A Durable Polyester Backing Our 3M™ Polyester Tape 8901 is a blue 2.4 mil (0.06mm) with a 0.9 mil polyester backing for strength, durability and long service life. This product has a clean-removing high temperature silicone adhesive and tough non-slivering polyester backing. Recommended applications: Aerospace Splicing of silicone treated webs Masking parts for powder coat painting Holding parts or sealing vacuum bags during processing Masking edges of overlap seams in metal bonding process where excess adhesive flows onto tape Composite bonding – sticks well to molds treated with release agent, works as a flash breaker tape on removal of part from mold, seals vacuum bags if vacuum bag treatment is part of the process Provides a good barrier for separation of dissimilar metals Holding silicone or silicone treated parts These features make our 3M Polyester Tape 8901 suitable for a number of difficult applications requiring high-temperature resistance or adhesion to silicone treated surfaces. The polyester backing offers excellent thermal, abrasion and chemical resistance while maintaining flexibility. Additionally, this high strength tape is built to endure demanding working conditions by offering high-tensile strength and high-tear resistance in some of the most demanding working conditions. Collectively, these features – broad temperature compatibility, high tensile strength and broad chemical compatibility – make this product useful for applications in a number of industries, including: Transportation Specialty vehicle Construction Automotive Military and government General industrial Appliance Electronics Print Clean Application and Removal with Silicone One of the main reasons why this product is known and trusted for use in so many industries is because of its broad temperature capability. When put to the test, this tape continues to work effectively in some of the most demanding work conditions. The pressure sensitive silicone adhesive is ideal for high temperatures up to 400ºF (204ºC) with clean removal during high-temperature masking operations. This product can also be used in temperatures as low as -60ºF (-50ºC). Our adhesive has long service life and is designed to remain firmly adhered and flexible. Additionally, the silicone adhesive sticks well to surfaces such as silicone liners and silicone coated surfaces as well as in composite bonding applications where it sticks well to molds treated with release agent. Users can also use the tape as a flash breaker tape on removal of a part from the mold and can seal vacuum bags if vacuum bag treatment is part of the process. When finished, the tape removes cleanly and easily from stainless steel, anodized aluminum and glass even after a 5 hour bake cycle at 350ºF/177ºC. The tape’s high heat resistance helps prevent failure from softening or oozing, a common problem found in some competitive products.
